The official betting preview of the Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks sees Atlanta laying 4.5 on the road with a total of 199.5. Both the side and the total are up significantly from the opener, which saw Atlanta -3.5 with a total of 196. The Hawks are favored by 72 percent of bettors with 54 percent wagering on the over.
The Hawks are 62-23 straight up and 49-33 against the spread. However, they are just 16-23-2 since Jan. 25 in the back pocket. Brooklyn is 39-46 straight up and 43-41 against the spread. Teams with winning percentages of less than .480 are just 17-27 against the spread in postseason play. That would suggest fading the Nets. Said teams have gone under at about the same rate of 26-17-1.
The Nets are on a four-game spread winning streak, including all three in this series. However three of the covers have been by 4.5 or less. That puts the Hawks spread setback streak at five.
Each squad has gone under four straight by at least 14 points. That of course would include all three playoff meetings. In fact, the Nets have gone under 6-of-7, the only over by .5. Teams on four-game or better against the spread streaks are 98-68 in postseason. That applies to Brooklyn.
Spread trends (all records against the spread): Atlanta is 20-6 on Mondays and 26-13 off three straight games as favorties but Nets 14-3 versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .600 or better. The road team is 7-2 in the series.
Over/under angles: Atlanta has gone over 7-3 on the road, while Nets over 12-4 off straight up win.
