The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets play game five of their playoff series Tuesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks look to take one more step to completing the impossible 3-0 rally. Monta Ellis is averaging 26.3 points and 4.8 assists while Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 21 points and 9.3 rebounds. Jose Juan Barea is dishing seven assists and Al-Farouq Aminu is grabbing 6.8 rebounds. The Dallas Mavericks have scored a combined 249 points in their last two games, as they’re killing the Rockets in transition. The Mavericks will have to be just as aggressive on the road if they hope to extend this series another game. Amar’e Stoudemire, who had 12 points in the game four win, will be the X-Factor for the Mavericks success. The Mavs have lost six of their last nine road games.

The Houston Rockets hope to end this series so they can get some rest. James Harden is averaging 28.5 points and 7.8 assists while Josh Smith is averaging 16.8 points and six rebounds. Dwight Howard is averaging 12.5 rebounds and Trevor Ariza is dishing 2.8 assists. The Houston Rockets can score with the best of them, but they have to give much better efforts defensively if they’re going to make a deep playoff run. The lack of quickness at point guard is also an issue, which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if rookie Nick Johnson gets some playing time in this game. The Rockets have won nine of their last 11 games on their home court.
The Mavericks are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 road games and 7-17 ATS in their last 24 games overall. The Rockets are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Mavericks are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings in Houston and 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings overall.
The Mavs played as well as they were going to play in game four and had the help from their home crowd to lead them to the finish line. None of that happens here. Look for a much more focused Houston team that puts this series to bed. The Rockets win by double digits.
Houston Rockets -6.5
