89-year-old scores TD in Kansas alumni game (Video)
Prior to Kansas’ spring game on Saturday, the Jayhawks held a flag football game for KU lettermen. According to KUSports.com, there were about 40 former Jayhawks on hand, but one – 89-year-old Bryan Sperry – was the star of the game.
Sperry played for the Jayhawks from 1946-48 after serving in the Army during World War II. He caught a long pass in the 1948 Orange Bowl and showed that he still has some skills with this touchdown catch on the last play of the game.
“The guys did a great job today,” Sperry said after the game. They helped me out every way they could, you know. I had a lot of fun after I convinced them that I could play.”
Sperry played on both sides of the ball during his time with the program. You can see with the way he carried the ball – high and tight – that he still has some game left.
