BVB: No Gundogan agreement with United
ESPN FC’s Gab Marcotti delves deeper into reported Manchester United targets Memphis Depay and Ilkay Gundogan.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has firmly rejected speculation Manchester United are on the verge of signing Ilkay Gundogan.
Widespread reports in Germany and England had suggested that United were set to announce a €30 million deal for the 24-year-old midfielder this weekend.
However, sources had told ESPN FC on Friday that, although the Germany international has told Dortmund he wants to leave this summer and United are interested, there was no truth to claims that a deal was already in place.
Zorc told Sky Sport News HD in Germany on Saturday: “Usually we won’t comment on these countless rumours, but this story is so grotesque, and that’s why we say this once: There is no signature, there is no offer, no request, and not even any contact.
“My last contact with Manchester United, and I say this openly and honestly, took place in November 2014 and was about something else entirely.”

Zorc said he had not been contacted before the reports were published, adding: “That journalists don’t hear from the other party before something is written, that’s a bit sketchy, to be honest…”
United were also reported to have made a €30 million bid for Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, but Zorc had told Bild on Thursday that he could not confirm the claims.
ESPN FC’s Germany correspondent Stephan Uersfeld contributed to this report.
