Teixeira, Yankees stop Mets' 11-game streak
Mark Teixeira and Michael Pineda took much of the drama, if not the fun, away from the opener of New York’s first meaningful Subway Series in a long time. Teixeira hit a pair of two-run home runs, and Pineda allowed a run and five hits over 7 2/3 innings Friday night in a 6-1 Yankees victory that ended the Mets‘ 11-game winning streak.
Watch out, A-Rod! Teixeira is too hot to the touch! (USATSI)
Both teams came in sitting in first place in their respective divisions, and the Mets came in with the league’s best record at 13-3. The Yankees have been streaking too, and are winners of seven of eight. New York bragging rights are very much on the line this week.
Jacob deGrom came in with an 0.93 ERA in three starts and a scoreless streak of 18 1/3 innings, but allowed six runs and eight hits over five. He also allowed a solo home run to Jacoby Ellsbury. Teixeira has seven home runs, second in the league.

The rest of the slate:
Suspended:
Royals 2, White Sox 2 (9th — rain) Scheduled to resume Saturday
More finals:
Astros 5, Athletics 4 in 11 innings (box score): Scoreless through nine, the A’s rallied twice after the Astros took a lead in extra innings, but Chad Qualls got the last out to preserve the victory. Dallas Keuchel allowed two hits over nine, lowering his ERA to 0.62.
Dodgers 3, Padres 0 (box score): Zack Greinke is your Lexus Player of the Game, not that you would see that in Los Angeles, probably, because the Dodgers are not on local TV in 70 percent of the market but it’s OK because their brand isn’t hurt.
Angels 3, Rangers 2 (box score): David Freese hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh, and he also made a nice pick at third base on a grounder for the final out in the ninth. Huston Street with the save.
Pirates 4, Diamondbacks 1 (box score): Gerrit Cole allowed a run and seven hits over 7 2/3 innings. Neil Walker and Josh Harrison drove in two runs apiece. Mark Melancon got the save.
Mariners 2, Twins 0 (box score): The 24th complete game and 10th shutout in the career of Felix Hernandez (and first of either since 2012) after he strikes out nine. Logan Morrison found the seats with his first home run.
Indians 13, Tigers 1 (box score): Brandon Moss hit two home runs and drove in seven. Danny Salazar struck out 11. Shane Greene came in with an 0.39 ERA but it’s 3.00 now.
Marlins 3, Nationals 2 (box score): Pitcher Mat Latos drove in a run and allowed two over 6 1/3 innings.
Rays 12, Blue Jays 3 (box score): The Rays hit three home runs.
Orioles 7, Red Sox 5 (box score): David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez and BROCK HOLT! all went deep, and Koji Uehara got the save. The O’s have dropped five straight. Hanley Ramirez left the game because of a left foot injury after fouling a pitch off it.
Cardinals 3, Brewers 0 (box score): Carlos Martinez allowed three hits over seven innings and struck out eight, lowering his ERA to 1.35. He’s been the best pitcher in the National League so far (now that Jacob deGrom came back to Earth). OK, other than Max Scherzer. The Brewers are 3-14.
Cubs 7, Reds 3 in 11 innings (box score): Thirty strikeouts combined for both teams, with Jon Lester and Mike Leake combining for 19 of them. Jonathan Herrera singled home the go-ahead run, and David Ross drove in three with a double for the final margin.
Rockies 6, Giants 4 (box score): Rookie right-hander Eddie Butler was OK, and Charlie Blackmon hit a home run for the Rockies. Nolan Arenado went 2 for 5 with a double and another incredible play at third base. Scroll down to see it. Chris Heston had a rough time at Coors, allowing six runs ans 11 hits over 5 1/3.
Phillies 1, Braves 0 (box score): Aaron Harang was great again over eight innings. The Braves made four errors. This is how the game ended:
Quirky RBI for Ben Revere on the error by Freddie Freeman.
