2015 WWE Extreme Rules Predictions – SportsBlog.com (blog)
Is it a night where WWE takes their PPV to the extreme. Welcome to the Extreme Rules PPV preview here on sportsblog.com. Extreme Rules will be live this Sunday night from the Allstate Arena in Chicago Illinois. The build-up to this show hasn’t been exciting. WWE creative has been in a hangover from the success of WrestleMania. However, the European Tour has burnt out most of the WWE creative team. Despite the issues with the build, this should be a great show based on the body of work. The main event will consist of Seth Rollins facing off against Randy Orton in a Steel Cage match. Also, John Cena faces Rusev in a Russian Chain match. Roman Reigns vs. Big Show in a Last Man Standing match and Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus in a Kiss Me Arse match. Here’s my preview for this Extreme Rules card.
Tag Team Titles: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston): This will be on the preshow, which is an injustice, as this match should be on the main show. I love the body of work of Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. But then again, The New Day are good. The story going into this match is that Kidd and Cesaro turned babyface for this match. The reason for that is because they got a great reaction during the European Tour. The heel turn for the New Day has been good, but they’re going nowhere. Who wins this match? I have to go with The New Day in this one. The booking scenario in this is that these teams will face each other again at Payback and with The New Day winning, it gives the Lucha Dragons the opportunity to challenge The New Day during the summer.
Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper (Chicago Street Fight): These two will go at it in a crazy street fight. I love the idea of a street fight, which makes this match exciting. Ambrose is becoming the hardcore icon of the PG era where Harper is the brawler. This wouldn’t surprise me if this match is a top 3 match of the night. Have Ambrose win the match. He’s been lost in the shuffle, and he needs the victory. Expect a lot of weapons being thrown in.
Divas Title: Nikki Bella vs. Naomi: Originally, Paige was the number one contender for the Divas title, but Paige was written off because she is filming a Christmas movie for the Hallmark channel, which puts Naomi in the position to challenge for the Divas title after attacking Paige. Naomi goes into the match as a heel, thus turning Nikki Bella as a babyface. This could be a good divas match. Naomi has a really good athletic background and Nikki has been improving. This could be one of the better diva matches we’ve had on a B rated PPV in quite some time. Naomi has to win this match. I love the new heel character and she’s been getting a push. The future-booking scenario is to have Paige come back and challenge Naomi for the Divas title. Nikki’s been the Divas champion since November and it’s time to put the title on someone else.
Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler (Kiss Me Arse Match): The last time we had this type of match was at SummerSlam 1999 when The Rock faced off against Billy Gunn in a Kiss My Ass match. But let’s talk about this Kiss My Arse match. Dolph Ziggler is a great seller and Sheamus is the brawler. This could be another match of the night candidate. Expect some exciting nearfalls. But to be honest, I don’t like the stipulation. The reason WWE added this stipulation was to put over the new Sheamus character. No shenanigans in this match. Ziggler will battle back in the match, only for Sheamus to hit the Brogue kick. Give me Sheamus to win this match.
Roman Reigns vs. Big Show (Last Man Standing Match): This is one of my favorite matches in pro wrestling, but I’m not looking forward to this match. Why? The Reigns vs. Big Show feud has been lackluster to say the very least. Technically, it’s the Knockout Punch vs. the Superman Punch. Who’s getting knocked out? It’s going to be the Big Show. What’s interesting is that the PPV will be in Chicago and with a large IWC crowd in Chicago, you can expect Reigns getting booed out of the building.
Intercontinental Title: Daniel Bryan vs. Bad News Barrett: The biggest mystery of this PPV. Will this match take place tomorrow night? Well, if anyone has been living underneath a rock, PWInsider reported that D-Bry could be out of action for five weeks. Did D-Bry suffer a concussion? Did D-Bry suffer another injury relating to his nerve damage? That’s the question that the IWC and WWE Universe wants answered. With D-Bry being out for five weeks, there’s no chance of him wrestling in Chicago, which is a darn shame, but it is what it is. What will WWE do with Bad News Barrett? Here’s an idea! Have BNB go up against Neville. If WWE goes with this scenario, expect Neville to win in his PPV debut.
US Title Match: John Cena vs. Rusev (Russian Chain Match): This match could be a hit or miss. I want this to be a great brawl, but with this stupid PG era, this could be a miss. Cena has a history of making a boring match into a great match, so watch out for that this coming Sunday. Meanwhile, Rusev has been impressive in this feud against Cena, with his athleticism and brawling. There’s so much Shakespearean drama when it comes to the booking. Could Lana turn on Rusev? Could Rusev win this match to continue his feud with Cena? I want that to happen, but in my heart of hearts, I have Cena winning this match to end this three-month feud.
WWE Title Match: Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton (Steel Cage Match & Kane As Gatekeeper & The RKO Banned): Match of the night. If you don’t believe me, watch their match from WrestleMania. Both have great chemistry and it makes this Steel Cage match special. Give these guys twenty minutes with some great wrestling and a full brawl. The X-factor in this match is Kane. He’s the key figure in this storyline, and could be he anti authority after Sunday? Who knows! But I have this feeling that he’ll screw Orton and stay with The Authority. Other booking directions I see is Orton using the RKO, which gets him disqualified, Kane turning on The Authority and helping Orton win the WWE Title, but that’s a long shot and a major booking disaster. Why do I say that? Rollins just won the WWE Title at WrestleMania and then having Rollins as a transitional champion makes no sense. Give me Rollins to win this match by authority shenanigans.
