MUST-SEE: Bartolo Colon picks off A.J. Pierzynski, runs him down – CBSSports.com
Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon, much like his team, is off to a great start this season. This doesn’t just apply to his pitching performance, but also to his entertainment factor. There’s always the adventure with him batting, but how about this beauty?
That would be Colon catching Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski and then taking care of business himself. That’s a one-unassisted (1U) putout!
You know what else is great? Some people have been saying on Twitter that Colon had the ball in his bare hand and tagged Pierzynski with his glove hand, and therefore the call should’ve been safe. This is incorrect. Pay close attention to the ball. He transfers it to the glove at the last instant before the tag because he needed the ball on his glove side. Then immediately after the tag, he just transfers it right back out of seeming habit.
So, so perfect.
I believe Bartolo said the following to himself after the play:
“This is gonna be my time. Time to taste the fruits and let the juices drip down my chin. I proclaim this the Summer of Bartolo!”
A.J. Pierzynski was punked by Bartolo Colon. (Vine)
