The NFL announced on Thursday that the second round picks in the 2015 NFL Draft will be announced from the podium by 32 former NFL players, one representing each team. There are bound to be trades that result in some teams drafting twice and others not drafting at all during the second round, but since the list of players has already been announced, that just means some of these guys will be announcing the selections of teams they didn’t play for.
The list is led by six Hall of Famers: Jim Kelly (Buffalo Bills), Dick Butkus (Chicago Bears), Dwight Stephenson (Miami Dolphins), Willie Brown (Oakland Raiders), Mel Blount (Pittsburgh Steelers) and 2015 Hall of Fame class member Charles Haley (San Francisco 49ers). Kelly was was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma — a form of cancer — in 2013, though in late 2014 he announced that his doctors could no longer find evidence of cancer.
Other notable names include the recently-retired Adrian Wilson (Arizona Cardinals), ESPN’s Darren Woodson (Dallas Cowboys), Donald Driver (Green Bay Packers), Ty Law (New England Patriots), Jon Runyan (Philadelpia Eagles) and Mike Alstott (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), among others.
Oh, and Ickey Woods will shuffle to the stage (pun intended) as a representative of the Cincinnati Bengals.
