The Rockets head into Dallas for game 3 of this series with a 2-0 record taking it to the Mavericks in the first two games in Houston. The Rockets power forwards James Harden and Dwight Howard and a top notch bench were able to crush the Mavericks in Game 2 111-99 covering the posted spread of 8.5. This team was just too much for Dallas to handle with Harden scoring 24 points; most of them from the free throw line where he went a perfect 13-13.
This suggests that the Mav’s just don’t have an answer for shutting down Harden’s offence except to foul him. He appears to score at will. Howard had a similar performance scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds, he seems to be unstoppable in the shaded area where he managed to put up 20 of the Rockets 60 points in the paint. The Rockets bench were also instrumental in the win with Josh Smith who scored 15 points and had a playoff career high of 9 assists.
On the flip side Dallas struggled partially due to the lack of Parson’s on the hardwood who missed the game because of a knee injury. This doesn’t bode well for the Mavericks as he may miss this entire series. With Parson’s out it’s expected that Richard Jefferson and Al-Farouq Aminu will see more playing time and as it stand neither are at the level of play that Parson’s brings to the team. Game 2 saw Jefferson play for 23 minutes managing only 7 points likewisefor Aminu who spent 23 minutes on the floor chipping in a mere 9 points. Dallas’s fate will rest on the shoulders of Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler, Rondo and Ellis who will have to pick up the slack. That said of the four only Ellis had a decent game finishing up with 24 points on 8-23 shooting. Overall the Mavericks only shot for 33-89 from the field in game 2.
