And now, ‘Deep Thoughts,’ with Zach Randolph
After hitting a home run back in January with “Tiny Lee” — a brief, apropos-of-nothing, Courtney Lee-starring co-opt of the 1992 “Saturday Night Live” skit “Tiny Elvis” — the Memphis Grizzlies have decided to return to the “SNL” well.
Behold, noted giver and jackin’ dude Zach Randolph in the role we never knew he was born to play: Jack Handey, the author and voice of small-joke wonder “Deep Thoughts.”

But tucking isn’t all Z-Bo wonders about:
You’ve got to give Randolph credit for conquering his fear of cats long enough to wonder about how their brains work. That mustn’t have been an easy journey for him to make as an actor.
Shouts to the Grizzlies for, once again, deciding to make Internet content that is basically specifically for me. (Jack Handey might be my favorite comedy writer ever; three years ago, I wrote my playoff previews based entirely on “Deep Thoughts,” and this was my high-school yearbook quote.) Here’s hoping the Grizzlies, who hold a 1-0 lead in their opening-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers, enjoy a nice, long playoff run that affords their digital team the opportunity to make more “SNL”-themed bits of lunatic brilliance. I hear Vince Carter loved Toonces the Driving Cat.
