Anthony Davis put on a very good performance in their first game against the Warriors which happened to be his first playoff game of his career, but it was not good enough to take the win from the best team in the NBA. His new career high game scoring of 35 points including 20 in the 4th quarter was impressive, but it just wasn’t good enough.
The Pelicans outscored the Warriors 33-22 in the fourth quarter but couldn’t make it all the way back from an 18 point deficit losing 106-99. The win by Golden State extended the Warriors home game winning streak to 29 games.
Going into game 2 New Orleans could be without Evans the team’s second leading scorer due to a knee contusion in Game 1. Quincy Pondexter who scored 20 points in the opener will be expected to pick up the slack if Evans doesn’t go tonight.
The Warriors looked to be easily heading to victory in the first 3 quarters of game one with Stephen Curry scoring 34 points but the scoring pace slowed in the 4th quarter for the Warriors and the Pelicans rallied to within 7 points.
Golden State star Klay Thompson shot for only 6-17 from the field for a mere 21 point game. He will be looking to increase that poor performance tonight and get back to his 55% shooting average by game end.

We were wrong. We thought that the Warriors wouldn’t take their foot off of the gas in the playoff series opener on Saturday, but that’s exactly what happened in Game 1. Some credit has to be giving to the Pelicans for fighting back, but the fact remains that Golden State was out-scored by 11 points in the 4th quarter to turn a blowout easy cover into a loss. It would not be a stretch to believe that New Orleans gained some extra confidence from the last two games against Golden State when they came back to win after falling behind by double digits in their last meeting in the regular season and coming back from 18 down to get within 5 in Game 1.
