Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Best MLB Position Player Picks for Friday, April 17 – Bleacher Report
There should be a lot of high-scoring daily fantasy baseball games Friday night since some of MLB‘s big-time aces are toeing the rubber, including Clayton Kershaw ($12,600), Max Scherzer ($11,700) and Corey Kluber ($9,800). In order to squeeze those big-ticket items into your DraftKings budget, we focus on finding some bargains in our position player picks for April 17.
Infielders
C Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants ($4,000)
Posey’s price is in the must-buy range right now, especially since he recorded two hits, a run, RBI and walk Thursday. His history against the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Josh Collmenter is dynamite, too. Posey is 11-for-20 with three homers, a double and just one strikeout. This is a no-brainer play of the night.
- Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals ($4,100)
- Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals ($3,300)
1B Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh Pirates ($3,500)
Alvarez is the bargain at first base. We are not quite sure why the price is so low here, but we ought to take advantage, especially with the pitching aces on the board Friday night. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Jimmy Nelson is coming off a great season debut against these same Pirates, but repeating that performance is not as likely on the road.
- Prince Fielder, Texas Rangers ($4,300)
- Adrian Gonzalez, Los Angeles Dodgers ($4,900)
2B Ben Zobrist, Oakland Athletics ($4,300)
There is not much to Zobrist‘s heel issue that kept him out of Wednesday’s game, so we should expect him to be in the lineup Friday night against the Kansas City Royals’ Jeremy Guthrie ($5,700). Zobrist has 41 career at-bats against him and is hitting him at a .317 clip (13-for-41 with three doubles and a triple).
- Jason Kipnis, Cleveland Indians ($4,700)
- Daniel Murphy, New York Mets ($4,000)
Zobrist has a little bit of a heel thing, Melvin says. Could play if had to but with offday tomorrow nice time to get him day off.

3B Trevor Plouffe, Minnesota Twins ($3,500)
Corey Kluber might be the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, but he is a grocery-bagger against Plouffe for some reason. Plouffe is 9-for-25 with two homers, one double and seven RBI against the Cleveland Indians ace. The historical numbers make him an affordable option to consider.
- Pablo Sandoval, Boston Red Sox ($4,700)
- Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees ($3,900)
SS Yunel Escobar, Washington Nationals ($3,400)
Not only are the Nats a heavy favorite to pummel the Phillies on Friday night behind Max Scherzer, but they are also hitting Escobar at the top of the lineup. The added at-bats are a plus, and Escobar came through with a homer Thursday, making him an affordable start here.
- Jean Segura, Milwaukee Brewers ($3,900)
- Jimmy Rollins, Los Angeles Dodgers ($4,000)
Outfielders
Nelson Cruz, Seattle Mariners ($4,800)
Which of these players will you start your outfield picks with Friday night?
Which of these players will you start your outfield picks with Friday night?
-
Nelson Cruz
-
Jon Jay
-
Bryce Harper
-
Giancarlo Stanton
-
Matt Holliday
-
Chris Carter
How is this for history against the opposing starter: Two at-bats, two home runs. That is what Cruz has done against the Texas Rangers’ Yovani Gallardo. The one thing we don’t like about the Cruz play is he is just scorching right now and due to regress. He has homered in five consecutive games, including a two-homer game in those. Everyone might be playing Cruz here, so look elsewhere if you are a contrarian.
Jon Jay, St. Louis Cardinals ($3,100)
Johnny Cueto isn’t a starter to stack against, certainly, but Jay has an intriguing history against the Cincinnati Reds right-hander, going 12-for-27 (.444) with three homers, seven RBI and a double. Jay also represents a bargain that will help you go elite with the starting pitcher aces.
Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals ($4,500)
Again, we like the Nationals against the Phillies here, and Harper is one of the best picks on the board in that regard. Harper has taken the Phils‘ Sean O’Sullivan deep once in three career at-bats, a small sample size, but the burgeoning star is a solid pick against anyone.
- Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins ($4,600)
- Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals ($3,900)
- Chris Carter, Houston Astros ($3,700)
