Cubs calling up top prospect Kris Bryant Friday
The Cubs are set to call up third base prospect Kris Bryant Friday, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirms.
Bryant enjoyed massive success this spring, going 17 for 40 and smacking nine home runs while driving in 15 runners. However, the team decided not to activate his service clock at the beginning of the season, sending him down to Triple-A Iowa, where he’s 9 of 28 with three home runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases.
Bryant, who was named the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America before the season, will serve as the team’s regular third baseman in Chicago.
The Cubs are expected to clear a roster spot by sending third baseman Mike Olt to the 15-day disabled list, according to ESPN Chicago, who initially broke the news of the impending promotion. Olt is reportedly dealing with a hairline fracture of his right wrist and is set to wear a cast for three weeks.
