Bryce Harper loves opening day just as much as we do
To no one’s surprise, Bryce Harper was just as excited to get the MLB regular season started as the rest of us.
Harper launched his third career opening day home run with a deep drive to right-center field on Monday and added in a cool little fist pump as he made the turn at first base.
“It’s opening day. You get a little fired up going around the bases,” Harper told the Washington Post. “That’s something I’m gonna enjoy and look back on. It was pretty cool.”

Unfortunately for the Nationals, Harper’s solo shot was all the offense they could muster in a 3-1 loss to the New York Mets, spoiling Max Scherzer’s otherwise strong D.C. debut. Scherzer struck out eight over 7 2/3 innings and all three runs he allowed were unearned.
Interestingly enough, the Washington Post also pointed out that Harper introduced a new walk-up song to his rotation for the season: Frank Sinatra’s “The Best is Yet to Come.”
That’s a bold but appropriate choice by the brash young star, and if opening day was any indication, we’re certainly inclined to believe him.
