Cubs admit they ‘missed the mark’ with opening night bathroom fiasco
Jon Lester’s sub-standard start or Wrigley Field’s new left field Jumbotron weren’t the main topics of conversation coming out of the Chicago Cubs’ 3-0 opening night loss to St. Louis on Sunday. Nope, what had everyone talking were the overly long bathroom lines that had a few people resorting to desperate measures to do their business.
The Cubs released a statement to local media outlets about the uh, fluid, bathroom situation, acknowledging the issue and promising to work on short-term solutions to avoid having similar problems in the future:
“Opening Day at Wrigley Field has always brought challenges with wait times and tonight was particularly extreme. Two bathrooms in the upper deck went down temporarily and forced fans downstairs where we already were experiencing issues with long wait times. With 35,000 fans showing up in the ballpark tonight, we were simply not prepared to handle guests during peak periods. We have high standards for service and we missed the mark tonight. We want to apologize to our fans for the inconvenience tonight. Moving forward we plan to supplement the existing restrooms with additional portable units and will continue to monitor wait times.”

The on-going renovations at Wrigley were expected to cause some complications but nothing quite like what unfolded all around the stadium’s concourses on Sunday night. This is obviously something that needs to be dealt with immediately and it sounds like the right steps are being taken to ensure the bathroom conditions will be at least improved for the Cubs’ next home game. We’re sure fans with tickets to Tuesday’s game are relieved to hear that.
