Nats land hosting rights to 2018 All-Star Game

Commissioner Rob Manfred and Major League Baseball will award the 2018 All-Star Game to the Nationals, according to the Associated Press. An official announcement is expected Monday.

Commissioner Rob Manfred intends to announce Monday that Washington’s Nationals Park will host the 2018 All-Star Game, a person familiar with Major League Baseball’s plans told The Associated Press.

Manfred is scheduled to be at Nationals Park on Monday, when defending NL East champion Washington begins its season against the New York Mets.
The Nationals played an exhibition game against the Yankees at Nationals Park on Saturday, and it appears there is already a banner commemorating the 2018 All-Star Game hanging at the park:

NL parks will host the All-Star Game each year from 2015-18 — Great American Ball Park (2015), Petco Park (2016) and Marlins Park (2017) have already been officially announced as Midsummer Classic sites.
Although the next four All-Star Games will be played in NL parks, MLB announced the AL and NL will continue to alternate as home and away teams, so the AL will be home in both 2016 and 2018.
Nationals Park opened in 2008 and seats just over 41,000 fans. Candidates for the 2019 All-Star Game include the Camden Yards (Orioles), Rogers Centre (Blue Jays) and Dodger Stadum (Dodgers).
