Jeff Luhnow receives letter from the most optimistic Astros’ fan ever
The Houston Astros appear to be much improved heading coming into the season. After winning just 70 games last year, the projection system at Baseball Prospectus has the Astros slated for 77 wins, and the FanGraphs projections claim the team will win 78.6 games this season. Those numbers aren’t going to lead to a division title, but they do signal progress for a team in a massive rebuild.

That’s not enough for one Astros fan. He believes in his team, and wrote a letter to general manager Jeff Luhow detailing his optimism for the upcoming season.
Allow us to attempt to transcribe the letter. It reads:
Dear hello Jeff Luhnow. Doing all right. My name Bret Kelley. Come from Alabama. Heart of Deep South. Goods be Astros fan. Astros turn team around. Wins 95 games. Wins AL West. Go to playoffs. Wins World Series. 1st Championships. Bring it to Houston. Astros fans go to Steak Shak. It honor know yous. You have good days. Thank you, Bret Kelley.
Mr. Kelley, you win the award for most optimistic Astros’ fan out there. If Jose Altuve is able to repeat, and George Springer becomes an MVP candidate and Evan Gattis hits 50 home runs, maybe the Astros will win 87 games this year.

We don’t want to assume to many things about Bret here, but, if he’s a kid, this is a cute note. We’ve all had unbridled confidence in our teams growing up, and we’ve all felt like Bret at some point.
At the same time, we must consider the more morbid aspect here. This note does look like it could have been written by a serial killer, in which case, the Astros had better win 95 games this season.
If they do, we can all go to “Steak Shak” to celebrate!
