Fan tries to grab foul ball and fails hilariously (Video)

The stats and outcomes might not be real in spring training, but the hilarity is realer than real deal Holyfield. Take, for example, this gentleman at Thursday’s Grapefruit League contest between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets.

The fact that he’s at the game wearing a Baltimore Orioles shirsey — of Brian Matusz, no less — should be a clue that our hero’s day is not going to end well. So when a foul ball comes down the line in the eighth inning, Orioles Bro prepares for his big moment. He’s gonna get that ball. He’s gonna stretch out there and make a diving stop like the pros do. He’s gonna …

Oof. Ouch.

Dude was as late on that thing as I’d be trying to hit an Aroldis Chapman fastball. And that dive — it was more like a stage dive than one of those smooth Manny Machado diving stops.

We’ll give the guy credit for keeping his sunglasses on his face and keeping his beer upright, despite the spillage. Things could have gone worse, but oh, they could have gone better too.

It’s not shown in the clip above, but someone tossed him the ball after he got back to his seat. Not a bad prize for public embarassment.
