Report: Braves nearing deal to acquire Trevor Cahill from D-backs
It looks like Trevor Cahill’s time with the Diamondbacks is coming to an end.
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported earlier Thursday that Arizona was discussing a trade with the Braves to send Cahill to Atlanta. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted that the deal was “on the verge” of being done and added that the D-backs are expected to be on the hook for half of Cahill’s $12 million salary for 2015 while John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 writes that the Braves will be sending prospects to Arizona.
Cahill, 27, is coming off a rough season, going 3-12 and posting a 5.61 ERA in 110 2/3 innings split between the rotation and bullpen, but the Braves appear willing to take a shot on the one-time All-Star and hope he can bounce back.

Moving Cahill would open a starting spot in Arizona for 22-year-old right-hander Archie Bradley. Considered one of the top prospects in baseball, Bradley has impressed in spring training with a 1.61 ERA in 22 1/3 innings.
This transaction could spur a flurry of activity for the D-backs, as Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweeted last month that outfielder Cody Ross and second baseman Aaron Hill were also candidates to be traded this season. Now with Cahill gone, they can focus on making deals involving their other veteran players.
