Kansas City is the defending American League champions and the odds makers have listed them as the lowest odds to win. Looking over the odds for this year’s AL pennant there are a few noteworthy teams. With the Astro’s sitting at +1000 they could be a potential dark horse in this pennant race. With a young energetic team they will need more than just youth to pull this off.
Royals
Odds: 7/2
The Royals are the odds on favorite to win the pennant again this year as they lead their AL central division and also have the best record in the American League at the time of posting.
Tigers
Odds: 9/1
Detroit will have to rely on their bats this year with the exit of Max Scherzer and Verlander not playing as well as he could. Detroit is chasing the 1st place Royals in the AL central, the Tigers are 6 games down from the Royals at the end of June.
Yankees
Odds: 17/2
Although the Yankees have an offense that is the 2nd highest scoring team in the Major leagues although there pitching staff leaves something to be desired as they are a disappointing 22nd in runs scored.
Angels
Odds: 12/1
Los Angeles is trying to keep it close in the AL West just 4 game back from the Astro’s. With the assistance of Pujols and Trout who are ranked 1 and 2 consecutively in home runs in the American League could use some help getting across the plate.
Astros
Odds: 13/2
Houston has been a surprise this year leading the AL West for most of the season ranking in the top 10 in runs scored and ERA. They bring some tough competition to the mound in both Keuchel and McHugh and could be tough to beat in the playoffs.
Rays
Odds: 14/1
The Rays are definitely locked in a tight race to the finish with the Orioles for the American League east with their excellent pitching so far this season. They rank 4th in the Majors in ERA with Archer leading the staff. Although their future is bright, they offense has struggled to score ranking 25th in crossing the plate.
Blue Jays
Odds: 11/1
Toronto is still alive in the American League east because of their successful offense, who lead the Majors in most runs scored. The Blue Jays biggest hurdle will be the success of their pitching staff as they rank 25th in runs scored sending them 5 games under .500 midseason.
Orioles
Odds: 11/1
Baltimore is playing well and are tied for 1st in the American League east, this well balanced team ranks 5th in runs scored in the Majors and the team is 12th in ERA.
The Orioles are tied for first in the AL East and they have been very hot as June draws to a close. They are a very balanced team that ranks 5th in the Majors in runs scored and 12th in team ERA. If they can get by the Rays they could be a big contender.
