Either way we have the general how to’s on most of the common MLB bet types.
Moneyline Wagering
A moneyline wager is a bet that uses the moneyline as a handicap. Say that the top team in the Majors was playing the worst team. If their was no handicap, every bettor would bet on the top team. In moneyline wagering, their is a line set for each team weighted by the public’s perception on the strength of both teams. So in the above example we may see the top team i the standings minus -240 and the bottom dwelling team +200. If you chose to bet on the top team you would have to lay $2.40 to win $1.00. If you chose to wager on the team in the bottom of the standings in this scenario you would win. $2.00 for every $1.00 bet. Total Line Wagering
This is a straightforward type of bet. You have to choose whether the combined runs scored will go over or under the total line number the sportsbook has set. For example the Orioles are hosting the Yankees at Camden Yards. The lines maker at your sportsbook has set the total line at 7 runs. if you want to place a total bet you must choose whether you think that these two teams will score more or less than the 7 runs. So, if you decided that there would be lots of scoring in this game and bet on the over and the final score of the game was New York 8 – Baltimore 5 you would win your wager with a combined 13 runs scored in the game. If you chose under the & runs, you would lose you wager. For more information on how this bet works check out – Total Line Betting
Runline Wagering
A run line is like spread betting in football or basketball with the mian difference being the terminology of runs instead of points and the larger change in the payouts associated with the line. The favorite in the game is saddled with a handicap of 1.5 runs (in most cases) and the underdog is awarded 1.5 runs. The moneyline part of the wager changes to reflect the runs. An example of this would be the Toronto Blue Jays are hosting the Texas Rangers. The runline odds for this game are Toronto -1.5 +120 and Texas is +1.5 runs -140. If you bet on Toronto on the runline and the final score was Toronto 4 Texas 3 you would lose your wager. If you bet on Texas on the run line you would have a winning ticket.
