Green Bay Packers (4-5) vs. Washington Redskins (5-3-1)
The Packers are reeling losers of three straight games and they were crushed in their last game giving up 47 points. Their defense has really struggled as of late and they only rank 24th in the league giving up an average of 26 ppg. Aaron Rodgers has been putting up big numbers, but has also made many mistakes and has not looked like the elite QB we are used to seeing. Still, with all the issues in Green Bay they are still in the NFC North race with the Lions and Vikings both at 5-4.
Green Bay has to thank the Redskins a little, as they took out division for Minnesota in their last game. That win snapped a two game winless streak for Washington, who is in the tough NFC East race where every team in the division is over .500. Too bad the Packers don’t have a winning record, as the Skins are 4-0 this season facing teams that come into the game over .500.
In their last games the Redskins beat the Minnesota Vikings 26-20 and the Packers lost to the Tennessee Titans 47-25.
On the season the Packers are 4-4-1 ATS with an O/U record of 5-4 and the Redskins are 6-3 ATS with an O/U record of 7-2.
Rodgers passed for 371 yards with a couple of TD’s in the loss to the Titans, but he was also picked off twice and was sacked five times. He has the numbers and the targets and a QBR rating ranking 6th in the league, but Rodgers has not played like an elite QB this season and he is also not getting much help. The line has not protected him well and the rushing game has struggled with Eddie Lacy out with an injury.
The Redskins have been playing much better defense in the last few games and rank 15th in the league defending the pass and 23rd defending the run.

Kirk Cousins had another solid game in the win over the Minnesota Vikings with 262 yards and two TD and no INT. He has a slew of solid WR’s and an emerging star in TE Jordan Reed and unlike Rodgers he has been helped by a running game that had 128 rushing yards in the win over the Vikings. That will be key in this game, as when Cousins passes for over 300 yards they have not won and they have not lost when has passed for fewer than 300 yards.
Green Bay ranks 16th in the league against the pass and while they rank 4th against the run they gave up 162 rushing yards in the bad loss to the Titans last week.

We look at it this way. The Packers have four wins on the season. They were lucky to hold on against Jacksonville on the road in Week 1. At home they beat a Detroit team that was down 5 starters on defense in Week 3 and the injury depleted defense of the NY Giants in Week 4. Their last victory came hosting the Bears who were in the game until an injury forced them to go with a third string QB for a large portion of the game. Washington is by far the superior team and that’s where we think the point spread value lies as a -2.5 home favorite.
