Rio Olympics: America reacts as swimmer Katie Ledecky nearly laps her competition
There was absolutely no drama heading into the women’s 800-meter freestyle final. Pretty much everyone — including her competitors — knew that that Katie Ledecky was going to win. The 2012 Olympic champion in this event was not about to cede her crown and, of course, she didn’t.
However, when you watch an athlete — any athlete — dominate their designated sport, or event or whatever, the way Ledecky did Friday night’s 800-meter final, all you can do is pick your jaw up off the floor. Even though everyone knew she would win, Ledecky smoked the field by over 11.38 seconds. The 19-year-old also shattered her own world record in the event with ease.
While many among us were speechless in the face of such an incredible run, you probably could find one of your pals on the internet to capture the moment for you. Here’s a look at some of the best reactions to Ledecky’s ridiculous 800-meter swim:
The Yellow World Record Line just broke down in tears in its interview after getting crushed by Katie Ledecky.

Katie Ledecky should really get all 3 medals.

Ledecky closes out her Rio run with four gold medals, adding to the one she already earned at the 2012 Olympics in London, and also picked up one silver medal. She was simply the most dominant swimmer we saw in the pool this year with her insane margins of victory.
This was a truly incredible performance that won’t soon be forgotten.
