Jeremy Lin made an anime-themed take on 'Space Jam’
While cartoon basketball movie enthusiasts patiently await the latest morsel of news about the possibility of a LeBron James-helmed “Space Jam 2” actually reaching theaters one day, Jeremy Lin decided to just go ahead, jump the line and make a “Space Jam 3.” … Well, sort of.

The new starting point guard for the Brooklyn Nets, whose love of making longform YouTube comedy videos dates back to before he became a household name and international celebrity, teamed up with friend and YouTube star Ryan Higa to offer a spin on the original “Space Jam.” Their version replaces Michael Jordan with Lin (a change played for comic effect in the bit), an MJ-appropriate means of getting sucked into a cartoon reality (being pulled through a hole on a golf course) for one more in line with Lin’s interests (playing a video game), and the Looney Tunes with famous anime characters like Naruto (Lin’s favorite anime, which he calls “the ultimate underdog story”), Sailor Moon, Yugi from “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and Goku from “Dragon Ball Z.”
It’s fun, goofy and self-deprecating, a neat way to while away a few minutes on a late-July Friday. Here’s hoping Lin’s return to New York brings with it more opportunities for him to flex his comedic chops on camera … and that the fine folks at Warner Bros. responsible for getting “Space Jam 2” off the ground one of these days are filing this away for future reference when it comes time to start thinking about cameos.
