The Minnesota Twins left their own fans confused on Thursday when they began scrolling a list of potential deadline trades on their left field scoreboard.

It’s one of those things we’ve tried warning you about. You’ll see a lot of names thrown around by a lot of different people before Monday’s deadline, but you’ll always want to have to double and triple check those sources to first make sure they’re real people, and always to confirm the deal finalized.

Here, many fans took the trades as real, rather than deals simply proposed trades by MLB’s Jim Duquette. That’s all they were. Photos of the potential deals, which included Carlos Beltran to the Cleveland Indians, then spread on social media, even garnering an acknowledgment from the Indians.
.@Twins thx guys

Trust us though, the Indians had something bigger in mind for their return to Progressive Field on Friday night. Behold, the greatest fake trade rumor in the history of all trolling.
For those who can’t see the message clearly, it says “Trade deadline rumors: The Twins are in the market for a new scoreboard operator, sources says.”
As you might know, the Indians are not ones to hold back when it comes to poking fun at their rivals in baseball and even teams from other sports. That continued here, as they landed a pretty stiff jab on the Twins chin. It’s all in good fun, of course, but one can only imagine how the poor Twins are dealing with being kicked while they’re down.
