Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald was the first to address reporters. Before he took questions, he welcomed all of the new coaches to the league but accidentally forgot Illinois coach Lovie Smith.
People thought it may have been intentional because of the rivalry between the two schools, but Fitzgerald made it clear that it was an honest mistake.

Penn State’s James Franklin is entering his third year and expectations are rising. He made it clear that the program is just now at a full number of scholarships stemming from NCAA sanctions.
Franklin says PSU is up to 17 scholarship offensive linemen. When Franklin arrived, the team had nine.

Longtime assistant Tracy Claeys is now the full-time head coach at Minnesota. He traveled to Chicago with quarterback Mitch Leidner, a media days veteran.
