Brenda Tracy speaks to Baylor football and basketball teams
Not long after speaking with Nebraska’s football team, Brenda Tracy met with Baylor’s football and basketball teams Monday.
Tracy said she was sexually assaulted at Oregon State in 1998. She shared her story with Baylor’s athletes in the wake of the sexual assault controversy that’s embroiled the Texas school.
“One thing I try to do is make this real for people. Look at me, I’m a human being, I could be your neighbor, I could be your mother, I could be the person behind you at the grocery store,” she said. “But I spent all these years wanting to kill myself and hating myself because someone else took my body and I did not give it to them.”
Tracy said what she tries to do is put a “face and a person and a human experience to rape.”
Huge thanks to all of the @Baylor players who have tweeted me. I appreciate you & remember the pledge you made to eachother! #ItsOnUs

Two former Baylor players are currently serving prison sentences for rape while former defensive end Shawn Oakman was recently indicted on sexual assault charges. It’s been discovered that other Baylor players have also been accused of sexual assault in recent years.
Tracy spoke with Nebraska as Nebraska coach Mike Riley was the football coach at Oregon State when Tracy was allegedly assaulted by two then-Oregon State football players. The players were never charged with a crime and Riley suspended them for a game.
After speaking to Nebraska, Tracy said a weight had been lifted off of her.

Here’s what Baylor coach Grobe had to say about Tracy’s speech to the team. He became Baylor’s acting head coach after Art Briles was fired. Athletic director Ian McCaw also resigned, as did president and chancellor Ken Starr after the school’s poor handling of sexual assault allegations became public.
“I think her story is compelling and it’s real-life stuff,” Grobe told the Dallas Morning News. “It opens everybody’s eyes. It makes us look at this issue very seriously.”
