Naturally, everyone is looking forward to the acceptance speeches that both players will deliver in front of what’s expected to be a massive gathering. This speech will be the culmination of a career deemed to be worth honoring at baseball’s highest level. It’s the storyboard of their respective journeys and it’s the exclamation point on their legacies as Hall of Fame players.
Not that there’s any pressure or anything.
The day isn’t exclusively about speeches, smiles and handshakes though. It’s about truly taking their place among baseball’s immortal legends. It’s about the moment when their legacies are truly cemented: when their Hall of Fame plaque becomes an official part of the Hall of Fame museum.
That’s the moment it becomes real, because that’s the moment it becomes forever.

Worth noting, the plaques aren’t quite ready to call the Hall of Fame Museum their permanent home. As the Associated Press reports, both will be on the road almost immediately following the ceremony.
Piazza’s plaque will be removed on July 29 and shipped to Citi Field, where it will go on display through July 31. Griffey’s plaque will be removed on the afternoon of Aug. 3 and displayed at Seattle’s Safeco on Aug. 5-6. Once those special events are over, the plaques will return home and be on display in Cooperstown.
