ICC's Manchester derby under threat
The Manchester derby at the International Champions Cup on Monday is in jeopardy due to flooding in Beijing.
Monday’s game between Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is due to take place at 13.00 BST (08.00 ET) on Monday at the 91,000-capacity Bird’s Nest Stadium.
But severe weather in China’s capital had led to fears that the preseason game will be cancelled.
“It’s a concern,” International Champions Cup China spokesman Ben Xiaozheng told reporters. “The weather has been really bad. But we’re hopeful the game will go ahead.”
United spokesman Phil Townsend added: “We are aware of the bad weather in Beijing, but also that the organisers are working very hard on getting the game to go ahead.”
