Former UNC running back transferring to South Carolina via GI Bill
Former three-star recruit Ty’Son Williams is heading to South Carolina as a walk-on.
Williams, a native of South Carolina, decided to transfer from North Carolina after his freshman season in 2015. He’s walking on because of transfer restrictions UNC put in place upon his departure. He was barred from going to any school that UNC would play for the duration of his college tenure.
He’s thankfully able to take advantage of a federal provision to avoid paying for his tuition, however.
“I just want to thank my parents, because honestly I wouldn’t be able to do it without them,” Williams said. “With them being in the military and the GI Bill, that kind of just opened up a variety of things. I could go to any school I wanted to. With that being said, I felt comfortable going back home to South Carolina, that school and their people. I just felt comfortable with that decision
“At the end of the day, I just had to do something that I just felt was right for me, and I just felt that was right.”
Just imagine if Larry Fedora was barred from being hired at Clemson or Florida State because either of the ACC schools was on UNC’s schedule in the near future.

Williams was the No. 43 running back in the country in the class of 2015 and the No. 7 recruit in South Carolina. He had 19 carries for 57 yards in 2015 and was likely going to be no higher than second or third on North Carolina’s depth chart in 2016.
