Matip injury 'only a minor problem' – Klopp
Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that the injury that forced new arrival Joel Matip to limp out of Sunday’s 2-0 win versus Wigan is not serious.
Matip, 24, is one of four players Jurgen Klopp has brought into the Liverpool team, after the defensive midfielder arrived from Schalke on a free transfer at the beginning of July.
“I hope it’s only a minor problem,” Klopp said following the win against Wigan. “He said he’s had it one or two times already.
“It’s the foot he had problems with in the past and then he had a little bit of pain when pre-season started because of the intensity.”
Matip has been performing well since his arrival from the Bundesliga, according to Klopp, and the manager revealed he thinks a few days rest is all the player will need.
Klopp added: “It’s not too serious, hopefully. We had to make the decision of Joel or Dejan [Lovren], who has to play the whole 90 minutes?
“We decided on Joel. For him it was a little bit too much but he is in a good way, as you can see.”
