Ronaldo, Wambach, Giovinco win ESPYS
Cristiano Ronaldo finished off a memorable week by being honoured with the ESPY for Best International Athlete on Wednesday.
Just three days after winning the European Championship, the Portugal star won the award ahead of the likes of Novak Djokovic (Tennis), Lydia Ko (Golf), Canelo Alvarez (Boxing) and fellow La Liga star Luis Suarez.
It’s the second time Ronaldo has won the award.
Also honoured was U.S. women’s soccer legend Abby Wambach, who picked up the Icon Award alongside fellow retirees Peyton Manning and Kobe Bryant.
Wambach said she was most proud to be part of a legacy left by the 2015 Women’s World Cup champions that fought for equality and left the game “better than I found it.”
Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco won the best MLS player award.
