NBA Vegas Summer League: Thon Maker picks up rare double-double with 10 fouls – CBSSports.com
Milwaukee Bucks rookie Thon Maker has generally performed well in his first summer league in Las Vegas. In his first game on Friday, he had 15 points and 13 rebounds. On Sunday, he followed that up with 17 points and 17 rebounds. He had six fouls in that game, too, but few noticed or cared because you only foul out on your 10th foul in summer league. Which brings us to Monday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
With more than six minutes left in the third quarter against the Grizzlies, Maker picked up his seventh foul. With about five minutes left in the fourth, he picked up his eighth. He picked up two more in the last 30 seconds and finished with the rare 10-point, 10-foul double-double in 31 minutes of playing time.
Maker is not the only player to foul out in summer league this year. Los Angeles Clippers center Diamond Stone recorded 10 fouls in just 17 minutes a week ago in Orlando.
Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel pointed out that Maker is not the only Bucks big man prospect to record 10 fouls in a summer league game — Andrew Bogut did so 11 years ago. DeMarcus Cousins and Greg Oden also did this in 2010 and 2007, respectively. Oden memorably improved after fouling out in his debut, picking up only nine fouls in his second game.
