UFC 200: Predicting the fights with 'EA Sports UFC 2,' 'WWE 2K16' video games – CBSSports.com
UFC 200 on Saturday is sure to provide some fireworks in the octagon with three separate championship fights scheduled to take place. Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier, Frankie Edgar, Jose Aldo, Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes all have a shot to walk out of the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night as champions. We decided to take a look at what these fights will look like using EA Sports UFC 2 to predict just who will be carrying the gold.
Let’s get things started with the women’s bantamweight championship.
Nunes opened the first round with a flurry of kicks and strikes, landing some significant shots. Tate was able to counter and take her to the ground. Once she got her there, it was all over. Tate got top position and dropped heavy fists and elbows on Nunes until the ref stopped the fight in the first round.
Winner: Tate via 1st round TKO (punches)
Next up, we head to the featherweight division with Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo battling for the interim title. Aldo, coming off his first loss in over a decade, is looking to reclaim his title and get a second shot at Conor McGregor. Standing in his way is Edgar, the former lightweight champion, who lost to Aldo in 2013 via unanimous decision.
Edgar gets things started early using his strong wrestling background to his advantage. The two exchange blows while standing briefly, but Edgar quickly takes Aldo to the ground to begin his assault. Edgar dominates the first round, controlling the action throughout.
The two continue to throw punches and kicks heading into the second round with Edgar landing more significant strikes. Edgar takes Aldo down again, but Aldo is able to break free and stand up. Then, out of nowhere, Aldo crushes Edgar with a flying knee and Edgar crumbles to the canvas.
Winner: Aldo via second-round KO (flying knee)
It’s co-main event time with Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier ready to do battle for the light heavyweight crown. It’s a rematch from January 2015 where Jones and Cormier brawled for five grueling five-minute rounds before Jones was declared the winner by unanimous decision. Now, they’re ready to do it again on UFC’s biggest stage.
Just like the first meeting, these two get after it, slugging away for the first two rounds. Cormier controls the action early on, actually getting Jones into a crucifix hold and appearing to nearly knockout Jones, but Jones is able to wiggle free and get to his feet.
Cormier uses his strong wrestling background to his advantage throughout the first three rounds — controlling and dictating where the action is. Jones just can’t seem to find a way to breakthrough his grappling. But in the fourth round, the tide turns. Jones starts dominating the cage and is able to take Cormier to the ground. After a couple shots, both stand again before Jones delivers the final knockout blows, leaving Cormier on the ground with a new* champion.
Winner: Jones via fourth-round KO (punch)
There’s just one more fight left on the card. So, in UFC 2, just about every mixed martial artist you can think of is featured in the game. Except for one glaring omission: Brock Lesnar. Now, we could have just created him online in the game to let he and Mark Hunt duke it out. But what fun is that? Introducing, Mark ‘The Super Samoan’ Hunt — WWE style!
The best way to settle things between Hunt and Lesnar? A steel cage, of course! The first man to score a pin, knockout or escape the cage is your winner.
Hunt and Lesnar both tried to escape the cage but were pulled down each time. Then, Lesnar kicked it into high gear, landing his signature F5 move before finally making it out of the cage.
Winner: Lesnar via cage escape
There you have it. There’s no way this predictions could go wrong, right? Brock can just run out of the cage on Saturday and declare himself the winner. I don’t think there’s a rule against that.
