Mike Trout takes a Jose Altuve-style tumble over second base
just like Altuve did on Saturday. And he did it right in front of Altuve.
Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout and Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve may not look anything alike, but they’re brothers now. They’re brothers for life after Trout tripped over second base on Monday while legging out a triple,Their bonding actually started before the game between the Angels and the Astros. While they were doing their pre-game warm-ups, Trout good-naturedly razzed Altuve about his tumble. He had no idea that in just a few innings, he’d be eating his words. And some infield dirt.
Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth inning. Trout was batting against Astros starter Collin McHugh, and he hit the 2-2 pitch up the right field line. George Springer ran to the line and made a grab at the ball, but he missed, and so Trout’s wheels revved up and he headed for third base. At least he thought he was. As Trout rounded second, he missed the bag and took a few big, unbalanced steps before falling forward and sliding on his belly.
It wasn’t the most graceful moment for Mike Trout. He got to his feet and scrambled back to second, pointing at Altuve the entire time. Trout knew what had happened. He’d tempted fate by making fun of Altuve’s tumble, and now he’d done the exact same thing.

Now that they were brothers in embarrassing second base trips, they shared a bonding moment. Trout grabbed and held Altuve’s head with his two giant hands to demonstrate their newly deepened friendship.
Altuve even told MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart that Trout apologized.
Trout had a comment about it for MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez.
Said Trout: “There’s kind of some karma involved there.”
If Trout tripping over second after razzing Altuve for doing the same thing isn’t karma, then I’m not sure what is.
