Report: Warriors' Barnes accepts Rio invitation
Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes has accepted an invitation to play for USA Basketball at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the Vertical reported Saturday.
Barnes becomes the third player from the Golden State Warriors to commit to Team USA, joining Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
That seemingly leaves just one spot available with USA Basketball set to reveal the official 12-man roster this week. Sources told ESPN on Thursday that Team USA remains hopeful that Cavs guard Kyrie Irving, the MVP of the 2014 Basketball World Cup, will ultimately accept his Olympic invite after a long playoff run.
Kevin Durant confirmed last week that he intends to play in Rio, and others to make the team, through ESPN sources or published reports by The Vertical and The Associated Press, include Thompson, Green, Carmelo Anthony, DeAndre Jordan, Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Paul George, DeMarcus Cousins.
Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff will hold a four-day training camp in Las Vegas from July 18 to July 21, and then the team will play five exhibition games, starting July 22 against Argentina and ending Aug. 1 against Nigeria. The Olympic basketball tournament will take place Aug. 6-21 in Rio de Janeiro.
