Vin Scully narrates himself gifting foul ball to a very lucky fan
Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals was jam-packed with exciting moments. Chase Utley and Adrian Gonzalez made a crazy juggling catch to secure an out, and the game ended with Yasiel Puig belly-flopping onto home plate to score the winning run on a walk-off. But there was a quieter, less crazy moment from that game that is just as good as those others.
In the top of the ninth inning, Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth was batting against Pedro Baez, hoping to break the 3-3 tie. He didn’t — he walked to load the bases, but not before fouling a ball into the booth of legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully.
Vin reacted to this as only he could: he narrated it. He looked down to the floor to find the ball, and he talked about himself doing it. Once he found it, he picked it up and leaned out the window of the broadcast booth “to look for a child.” He couldn’t find a child to toss the ball to, so he simply dropped it down to the fans below. He capped it off by joking “Great moment in sport, right?”

The fan that managed to grab that ball is very lucky. They’re the proud owner of a baseball that was hit into the broadcast booth and dropped from the sky by Vin Scully. With Scully retiring at the end of the season, that’s probably never going to happen again. Probably not, but in baseball, you never know.
