Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Utley team up for crazy circus catch
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is a four-time Gold Glove award winner who can still pick it with the best of them. However, at age 34, he’s more than a little limited now when it comes to mobility, which makes him one of the least likely first baseman to be involved in a circus-like “catch of the year” candidate.
This is why we should always expected the unexpected.
During Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Gonzalez was involved in a circus-like “catch of the year” candidate, teaming up with second baseman Chase Utley to rob Nationals’ pitcher Joe Ross of another swing.
It was one of those plays that had nothing or disaster written all over it. Either Gonzalez, Utley, and Yasiel Puig, who also raced in from right field, weren’t going to make he grab, or they were going to collide in the process of not making the catch.

Instead, the efforts of these Dodgers defied the odds, as Utley blindly swiped at the ball and deflected directly to Gonzalez, who bobbled and secured it for the out.
This is why it pays to hustle on every play, kids. Even when conventional wisdom says there’s no chance, the baseball is always itching to prove that wrong.
