Reds third baseman can’t find the baseball in his own glove
Have you ever spent ten minutes looking for your sunglasses only to discover that they’ve been perched on top of your head the entire time? Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez had one of those moments on Tuesday night, but instead of sunglasses on his head, it was a baseball in his glove. And it was probably more embarrassing than misplacing sunglasses.
It was the top of the second inning in the Reds’ game against the Texas Rangers, and fellow third baseman Adrian Beltre was batting. Reds pitcher Anthony DeSclafani served Beltre the 2-2 pitch, and Beltre knocked it to the left side of the infield. The ball took a hop before it bounced directly into the glove of Eugenio Suarez, almost like a magnet to a piece of metal. All Suarez had to do was get the ball out of his glove and throw it to first, and Beltre would be out.
Only Suarez had absolutely no idea that the ball was in his glove. Somehow, he hadn’t felt the ball land in his glove and he spent a few seconds looking above his head and behind him before he looked down at his hands. He saw the ball immediately, but by that point Beltre was already at first base and there was no point in making a throw.

Suarez didn’t seem interested in laughing at himself for that little mishap, especially since the next batter, Jurickson Profar, hit a home run. But those two runs were the only ones that the Rangers would put on the board Tuesday night. The Reds beat the Rangers 8-2, and Suarez was probably more than a little relieved that his “Where’s the ball?!” moment didn’t cause any real damage.
