Former Texas Tech DB says he’s transferring to Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky is getting another impact transfer.
Former Texas Tech cornerback Nigel Bethel announced on Twitter that he’s transferring to the FCS school. Bethel announced his intentions to transfer from Texas Tech in May and was set to be the top returning defensive back on the Red Raiders’ roster. Since he’s dropping down a level, he’ll be eligible to play immediately as a junior.

Former Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk announced he was transferring to Eastern Kentucky earlier in the year. Mauk was dismissed from the Tigers after multiple suspensions dating back to the 2015 season.

Ex-Ohio State defensive end Noah Spence played the 2015 season for EKU after he was indefinitely suspended by the Big Ten for multiple failed drug tests. Spence, who had 22.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks in 2015, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft.
Bethel had 43 tackles and 11 pass breakups in nine games for Texas Tech in 2015. His lone interception on the season came against Texas. He was a four-star recruit, according to Rivals, in the class of 2014.
