WWE Money in the Bank 2016 card and predictions – FOXSports.com
Televisions will be busy on Sunday because between Father’s Day, the final round of the U.S. Open, the seventh game of the NBA Finals and the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view, it’s going to be a great excuse to lounge around with your remote control.
The card that the WWE has planned for MITB is a good one – it may be the best we’ve seen in years – and we’re here to give you our match-by-match breakdown before the big event.
Get your pen and paper out if you want to follow along.
Who: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins
What’s on the line: WWE World Heavyweight Championship
This match might be too good. Last time we saw Rollins in a ring during a pay-per-view, he made a major return from injury by crashing the Roman Reigns party at Extreme Rules. Rollins returning immediately ignited a familiar feud between the two and now there’s a lot on the line. Rollins never technically lost the world heavyweight championship, he had to vacate it due to injury.
Reigns is in a tough spot because the poor guy won the belt fair and square, and now has to defend it against someone who already considers himself the rightful champ. this match will be reigns vs Rollins vs Rollins ego, and I can’t wait. Plus – what if Ambrose wins the briefcase and there’s some sort of post-Shield feud for the title, YES PLEASE.
Prediction: Reigns wins, because he always does, and we’re all just going to have to deal with it
Who: John Cena vs AJ Styles
What’s on the line: Bragging rights
Wait a minute… is this card better than WrestleMania earlier this year? It is, and why is it better? Because love him or hate him, the WWE universe felt a void without John Cena. Yeah – the New Era has been taking over our televisions and, sure we’ve welcomed it with open arms – but you can’t deny that any feud involving John Cena doesn’t get you pumped.
What doesn’t get me pumped is that we usually know how these feuds pan out and that is with Cena coming out on top. This time, I have a funny feeling they’ll put Styles over, giving him the chance to shine and escalate things leading up until SummerSlam.
Prediction: AJ Styles wins and this won’t be the last we see of this feud
Who: Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio
What’s on the line: Money in the Bank briefcase
Each of these six wrestlers are competing to grab this briefcase and hold on to the promise of a world heavyweight title match whenever they choose.
But who deserves it?
All of them.
This match will be the most surprising of the night. The only thing that is even remotely predictable is that maybe Jericho wins because they keep mentioning he’s the man who created the match. WWE could give him one more nod before he decides to sit on the sidelines and this might be it. Jericho doesn’t need the promise of a title shot in the palm of his hands though and neither does veteran superstar Alberto Del Rio.
Sami Zayn winning would be delight me like no other but in reality, it might not go to a face. When Rollins won, he did such a good job taunting the WWE universe with the threat of him being champ, I feel like Kevin Owens might make the best logical bully in this case.
Prediction: Kevin Owens wins but not without one heck of a performance from this group of six
Who: The New Day (c) vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillains
What’s on the line: WWE Tag Team championship
LOOK AT THIS TAG DIVISION! It’s insane! We are so lucky to have this talented group of superstars to entertain us weekly. I can’t think of a time the tag division was this stacked and this diverse.
Right now, The New Day are the current tag team title holders. They’ve been incredible champs over the past year. We’ve watched them blossom before our very eyes and turn into one of the most hilarious factions in recent memory.
I don’t want to say their run might be over. I’d like to see them hold on just a little longer and stretch out a feud until SummerSlam, but something tells me WWE might be passing the torch even when we aren’t ready for it. My only gripe: with the way the fatal-four-way is set up, I’d hate to see The New Day lost the titles without even being in the ring.
Prediction: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows win and it only gives them more ammo to keep up their path of destruction to the entire WWE
Who: Rusev (c) vs Titus O’Neil
What’s on the line: United States Championship
Let’s keep this one short. There’s no way that Rusev loses the title. Not a chance. Titus will put up an incredible fight, he’s extremely athletic and his size is a good match for the Bulgarian brute, just not good enough.
Prediction: Rusev retains
Who: Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs. Natalya and Becky Lynch
Whats on the line: Bragging rights
I know the women’s championship can’t be on the line every pay-per-view, but it makes matches less interesting when the reigning champ is in the ring and there’s nothing at stake.
This will be a great chance for Dana Brooke to show the WWE universe what she’s really made of and any time we get to see the greatness that is Becky Lynch, we’re bound to be dazzled.
In this case, because Charlotte has no threat to her title, Natalya and Becky will almost certainly come out on top.
Prediction: Becky Lynch and Natalya win
Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin
What’s on the line: Bragging rights
I love that this feud is still happening. Corbin is lucky to get to work with one of the hardest working wrestlers in the business. Ziggler puts on a show no matter what is on the line and this will be no exception.
I want to see this go on past MITB. Ziggler has 100 percent gotten into Corbin’s head and I think they could turn this into something more massive with the end in sight being SummerSlam.
Prediction: Ziggler beats Corbin
Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus
What’s on the line: Bragging Rights
Sheamus has been up and down the ranks of the roster from small matches to being WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He’s extremely versatile and seems to understand his role very well.
It’s Apollo Crews’ time to shine during this match. I don’t envision Sheamus taking the win, he doesn’t need it.
Prediction: Apollo Crews gets the win
