Justin Turner, Yasmani Grandal argue in dugout after near-mistake
Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal got into a heated dugout argument on Thursday, and had to be separated by teammates.
There haven’t been a lot of reports of teammates fighting with each other this season, so if you’re looking for some intra-team drama, this story might be for you. J.P. Hoornstra of Inside the Dodgers reported that Los Angeles Dodgers teammatesTheir argument stemmed from what was almost a significant baserunning mistake during the Dodgers’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dodgers were down 6-5, and Turner was batting with Grandal on first and Joc Pederson on third. Turner hit a long fly ball to left fielder Ryan Braun, who immediately hurled it to second to get Grandal out.
But the ball was hit deep enough to score Pederson at third, so he and Grandal tagged up. However, Grandal was approaching second base so quickly that he was tagged out at the same time that Pederson was crossing home plate. The call on the field was that the run had scored before Grandal was tagged, but it was close. If Grandal was tagged out first, the run wouldn’t count. The call did stand after the Brewers challenged it, and the run stayed on the board, tying the game at 6-6.

That was nearly a disastrous mistake by Grandal, who forgot to slow down to make sure the run scored before he got tagged. Justin Turner definitely noticed and he wasn’t happy, and he made sure that Grandal knew. Hoornstra reported that things got so intense between the two that several teammates had to intervene.
Adrian Gonzalez and Howie Kendrick got between Grandal and Turner, who eventually headed down a tunnel leading to the Dodgers’ clubhouse. Grandal stayed in the dugout and was immediately approached by manager Dave Roberts for a brief chat on the bench.
Both Turner and Grandal said that they’ve put the fight behind them, and they both took questions from the media after the game was over.
