Joakim Nordstrom loves Irish soccer fans, buys bar of them drinks
The 2016 UEFA European Championship is currently taking place in France and bringing soccer fans from all over the world in to follow their nation’s team.
Joakim Nordstrom of the Carolina Hurricanes ventured over to follow his native Sweden as they looked to get out of a tough Group E featuring Italy, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland.
On Sunday, during Poland’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, some Irish fans gathered at Quigley’s Point bar in Paris to watch the match. After noticing Nordstrom and his two brothers walking by, some fun banter was exchanged a day before the Swedes and Ireland drew 1-1 at Stade de France.
The Nordstroms decided to join the group of Irishmen for some beers and sing-songing. Soon after, a bartender at Quigley’s informed the patrons that everyone in the bar would get a drink on the house which was paid for by the Hurricanes forward.
Here’s one of those lucky Irishmen, William Keane, to JOE.ie:
“As you can imagine, this was met with a huge cheer and everyone went over to thank him for his huge generosity. I estimate the round must have cost him around €500, so it was very generous indeed.
“When I asked him why he did it, he just said that we were so welcoming to him and his two brothers and that they had such a good time with us that he wanted to show his appreciation.”
What a good dude.
As someone who was stuck on a plane watching Ciaran Clark’s own goal in the 71st minute, I could have used a free round or three.
