Andrew Bogut leaves Warriors-Cavs Game 5 with sprained left knee
Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut left Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals on Monday night after coming down awkwardly and appearing to be in severe pain after blocking a driving layup by Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith early in the third quarter:
Bogut planted his left leg as he landed; as Smith fell to the ground, he rolled into the front of it, bending it backward and sending the 7-footer to the ground, where he stayed, writhing in pain under the basket for two more possessions before a timeout finally stopped play and allowed the Warriors to get their starting center off the court:
The Warriors are already without their other starting big man, power forward Draymond Green, who is serving a one-game suspension after collecting his fourth flagrant foul points of the postseason following a league review of an incident that resulted in a flagrant foul-1 for “unnecessary contact with a retaliatory swipe of his hand to the groin” of LeBron James late in the Warriors’ Game 4 win.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Warriors offered a worrying update:
Andrew Bogut has suffered a left knee sprain and will not return to tonight’s game. An MRI is scheduled for later tonight.

Bogut was scoreless at the time of his injury, but had three rebounds and three blocked shots before exiting with the Warriors trailing 67-64 with 10:07 remaining in the third quarter. Should the Cavaliers extend the series with a win on Monday night, the results of that MRI would figure to loom large.
