ThorSport Racing shop heavily damaged in fire
A fire early Monday morning at the ThorSport Racing Shop heavily damaged the team’s building in Sandusky, Ohio.
ThorSport fields four trucks in the Camping World Truck Series, including the No. 88 truck for two-time Truck Series champion Matt Crafton. The team said in a statement Monday morning that it’s prepared to compete in Saturday’s Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.
Shortly after midnight on Monday morning, a fire broke out in the basement of the ThorSport Racing shop, located in Sandusky, Ohio. At this time, we can confirm that no one was injured. We are currently working with the fire department and local officials to contain the blaze, and assess the damage. We do not expect this to impact the team’s competition schedule. Our next race is at Iowa Speedway in Newton on Saturday, June 18. Further details will be forthcoming.
Here’s what the building looked like late Monday morning.

Since ThorSport is located in Ohio and away from most other teams in NASCAR who are in Charlotte, sharing space with a competing team as it rebuilds the shop would involve more logistical hurdles than if the team was based in North Carolina.
ThorSport also fields trucks for Ben Rhodes, Cameron Hayley and Rico Abreu. The Truck Series competed Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.
The ThorSport fire is the second fire to hit a NASCAR team’s shop in 13 months. Leavine-Family Racing lost four cars in a fire in May, 2015. A fire broke out at Richard Petty’s Museum in April.
