Yankees now fully marketing their dominant bullpen trio
The most recent master plan of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was to build a late-inning bullpen trio so dominant, manager Joe Girardi could essentially shorten the game to six innings and let his three relief studs bring it home.
Now that plan has turned into a money-making opportunity as well. Along with the folks at Majestic Athletic, the Yankees have created a new line of t-shirts that celebrate their bullpen trio of Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances.
‘No Runs DMC’ is an obvious nod to the rap group Run-DMC. That’s D for Dellin, M for Miller and C for Chapman for those scoring at home. They even have their jersey numbers below the corresponding letters to eliminate any confusion.
It’s definitely a fun idea, especially since Cashman’s plan has proven effective.
Since Aroldis returned from suspension on May 9, the trio has helped turn the Yankees season around. Their impact has really shown in the Yankees record. Since the trio has been together, the Yankees have gone 21-13 to move one-game above .500. During the same stretch, they’ve only gained one game in the standings, but that only shows how little the margin for error is in a difficult AL East.
Looking at the overall numbers, the trio has combined to allow 17 earned runs over 71 1/3 innings this season. That amounts to a 2.13 ERA. Better than that though, they’ve combined to strike out 128 batters, while only walking 14.

When you have something that special, there are only three things a team should do: Use them, market them and make a lot of money off them.
That’s exactly what the Yankees are doing right now, but with trading rumors also swirling around those three incredible assets, it’ll be interesting to see how fast these shirts go out of style.
