Mets manager Terry Collins hospitalized after falling ill
New York Mets manager Terry Collins was hospitalized on Sunday after falling ill prior to their game against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
According to assistant general manager John Ricco, the 67-year-old skipper began feeling ill 30 minutes before the game’s scheduled first pitch. The game has since started, with bench coach Dick Scott serving as the Mets acting manager.
The Mets have offered few other details, other than to say Collins was conscious, alert and was set to undergoing testing at the hospital.
The New York Post reports that Collins was advised by a team doctor and trainer Ray Ramirez to leave for the hospital after encountering unspecified symptoms.
“Afterwards he was feeling OK,” Ricco was quoted as saying. “But we’re just kind of being cautious here.”
The Mets have emphasized that they’re just being cautious. That gives the news a more encouraging feel. But we’re still hoping for good news and a clean bill of health for one of baseball’s most entertaining figures.
