P- Steven Matz (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $10,700. Earlier this season, Matz dominated the Brewers over seven innings, giving up two runs, and striking out eight. He lost his first start in eight starts this week, so he should be hungry to get back to his winning ways against a very average team.
P- Cole Hamels (vs. Seattle Mariners): $8,500. Hamels has already made one start against the Mariners this year and it was a good one. In seven innings, he only gave up two runs, while striking out eight. The Mariners offense has been very good recently, but a veteran pitcher like Hamels should be able to shut them down. At only $8,500, Hamels could be a steal.
P- POTENTIAL START: Ubaldo Jimenez (vs. Toronto Blue Jays): $4,800. I don’t typically write about extra players, but Jimenez could be a very good, cheap play on Sunday. The Blue Jays’ offense is only batting .206 against Jimenez on 199 at bats. In fact, Jimenez has held all of their sluggers to impressive numbers. In 33 at bats, Jose Bautista is batting .091, in 20 at bats, Josh Donaldson is batting .150, and in 35 at bats, Edwin Encarnacion is batting .200. At a price point of $4,800, he could provide a lot of flexibility to your roster.
C- Stephen Vogt (vs. John Lamb): $3,300. In Vogt’s last seven games, he is batting .367, with one home run, and four RBIs. Most of the attractive options at catcher are over priced, so I decided to go with a cheap bat whom has been hot recently.
1B- Chris Davis (vs. Aaron Sanchez): $3,700. Oh boy do I love when Crush Davis starts to hit home runs. Over his last seven games, Davis is batting .273, with four home runs, and seven RBIs. That makes 14 home runs on the year for Crush.
2B- Josh Harrison (vs. Mike Leake): $3,700. Harrison has been a very reliable option all year long. Over his last seven games, he is batting .323, with four RBIs, and three stolen bases.
3B- Matt Carpenter (vs. Jon Niese): $5,200. Once again, I’m trying to stack as many Cardinals against Niese as possible. Over the last seven games, Carpenters is batting .423, with one home run, and seven RBIs.
SS- Manny Machado (vs. Aaron Sanchez): $3,700. I know Manny hasn’t been hitting great recently, but he is too hard to pass up at only $3,700. Keep in mind that Machado does have a suspension on the horizon, but it is still under appeal. If for some reason that appeal gets dropped on Sunday, get ready to sub out Machado.
OF- Brandon Moss (vs. Jon Niese): $4,000. Moss is the definition of on fire. In his last seven games, he is batting .455, with five home runs, and eight RBIs. The Cardinals’ offense has destroyed Niese during his career, so this could be great for run production from Moss.
OF- Adam Jones (vs. Aaron Sanchez): $3,300. Let’s stick with the mini stack. I have already started two Orioles’ batters because of their bargain price, so might as well go with another one. Over the past 10 games, Jones has blasted four home runs. If you are not a fan of this stack, you could go with Jimenez as your second pitcher and really upgrade the offensive potential of this lineup.
OF- Matt Holliday (vs. Jon Niese): $3,700. I’m sticking with the Cardinals stack against Niese. In 92 career at bats against Niese, the Cardinals’ offense is batting .315, with two home runs, 11 XBH, and a .376 OBP. In Niese’s only start against St. Louis this year, he gave up five runs in five innings pitched.
