Grandpa Rossy tries old-school methods for Cubs All-Star voting
Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross is 39 years old and in his 15th season in the big leagues and this might be the most fun he’s had in the game in a long time.

He’s the elder statesman on the best team in baseball and his teammates make sure to remind him of his age all the time. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant created a Grandpa Rossy Instagram account to document Ross’s final season in the big leagues and Ross has completely embraced the nickname and the teasing to the point he’s doing Grandpa Rossy commercials for the Cubs humorously aimed at getting fans to vote for their favorite Cubs players for the All-Star game.
Here’s Grandpa Rossy attempting to use an old rotary dialed phone to cast a vote.
Here is the sequel, which was released Friday and includes a fax machine:

Perhaps it’s all the fun he’s been having or maybe it has been a weight off his shoulders to have announced this will be his final year. Regardless, Ross is playing well this season. He is batting .224, which would be his best batting average for a season since 2012 if the season ended now in early June. He also has hit four home runs and knocked in 17 runs. He hasn’t had more than 28 RBIs in a season since 2007.
Ross’s efforts along with the way the Cubs are playing this season had five Cubs in the starting lineup based on voting through June 7. Ross is not among the leading vote getters at catcher in the National League. He has never played in the All-Star game, but one Cubs fan has led a campaign to get him write-in votes.
