The dab is done, Cam Newton giving up his famous TD celebration
Cam Newton is done dabbing. He is giving up the touchdown dance that set off conservative moms, uptight columnists and spawned a million horrible imitations.
Don’t worry though. The Carolina Panthers quarterback will have another celebration that will make people irrationally angry. He said in an interview with WFNZ radio in Charlotte that he was done with the dab but will have something new in 2016.
Newton will likely be the most-watched player in the NFL again this season. First, he’s a great player and the reigning MVP, and his play on the field will always be worth watching. Those who love the joy in which he plays the game will still love him. Those who don’t appreciate that part of his game will find dumb reasons to criticize him, like the constant soap-box preaching over his post-Super Bowl news conference.
Being on the big stage of the Super Bowl took Newton from being an NFL player that people liked talking about to the NFL player EVERYONE wants to talk about. Either way, Newton’s 2016 will be entertaining.
The entertainment won’t include any dabbing though. But don’t worry, whatever Newton decides to do next will still lead to about a million angry comments.
